As a regional director for Adventures in Missions, I get to work with over 80 ministry contacts throughout Central America. Every month, I will be highlighting a country I work with at Adventures in Missions. I will be sharing stories from the field, highlighting ministries we partner with and sharing ways in which you can pray with us. Please partner with me and Adventures in  Missions as we disciple through missions and serve ministries.

Would you like to partner with me and Adventures in Missions as we serve the people of Guatemala?

ABOUT GUATEMALA

With a backdrop of volcanoes, lakes and mountains, Guatemala is filled with natural beauty and great coffee. However, the country has endured government corruption, natural disasters such as landslides and sinkholes, and a civil war that lasted nearly forty years.Despite these   hardships, the people of Guatemala are warm and hospitable.

In September 2013, I began my World Race mission trip at an elderly     center in the small town of Quiche, Guatemala. For ministry, my team spent time with the elderly at the center weaving dried palm leaves and playing soccer. We also had the opportunity to attend a celebration for Kids’ Day at a children’s home. Despite a language barrier, I was moved by the depth of communication we shared with the elderly and children in Guatemala.

MINISTRY HIGHLIGHT | BLUE WATER SURRENDER

Last week I had the honor of hosting one of our Guatemala contacts, Gail Gordan of Blue Water Surrender. Gail and I attended the first couple days of World Race training camp where she enjoyed the worship and teachings and learned a little more about the World Race mission trip.

Gail is in the beginning stages of her ministry, as she is forming relationships in the community and repairing   a property which will serve as a children’s home in a small village in Guatemala. She will be using a World Race team to renovate the property and build relationships within the community by getting involved with the local church and spending time with people in the village.

Gail was called to open a children’s home during a sailing expedition in 2006 when she met a pastor who brought her to a children’s home near the Rio Dulce on the eastern coast of Guatemala. She fell in love with the children and continued to visit year after year. Each time she visited, the number of children almost doubled. What used to be a home for only a few now has over 50. Gail saw a need to partner with the childrens’ home in providing a safe, healthy home for abused and abandoned children.

Gail has been praying for help in this endeavor and also to have an opportunity to pour into the lives of young people spiritually. When a World Race team contacted her about partnering with the World Race, she agreed to host her first team this February.

Blue Water Surrender is one of the 41 ministries we partner with in Guatemala. In 2016,  Adventures in Missions will send over 30 teams to Guatemala to come along side ministries  to provide encouragement and hands to support their vision.
